Hello, Clarington!
Canada has made the difficult decision to walk away from the negotiating table with the United States rather than accept a deal that is unfair to Canadians.
Throughout my career as a senior executive, I have negotiated major contracts involving significant dollars, complex interests, and people with quite different objectives. My approach was always straightforward: work toward a Win-Win outcome.
Good negotiations are about finding common ground, respecting both sides, and reaching an agreement that benefits everyone.
But sometimes, you encounter a negotiating partner whose objective isn’t a fair outcome — it’s to win at all costs. When it became clear that continuing would put the organization I represented at an unacceptable disadvantage, I was prepared to walk away.
I believe there are moments when standing firm is the responsible thing to do.
This is one of those moments for Canada.
As Canadians, we may disagree on many things, but we should be united when it comes to protecting Canadian jobs, Canadian businesses, and our economic interests.
And as we campaign for positions on Clarington Council, I believe we should demonstrate that same spirit of unity. I encourage all municipal candidates, regardless of political affiliation, to stand behind Canada’s negotiating team and support Canada’s interests.
But supporting Canada isn’t only about what happens at the negotiating table.
It starts with the choices we make every day.
When possible, let’s support Canadian businesses, Canadian manufacturers, Canadian farmers, Canadian workers and Canadian entrepreneurs. And when a Canadian alternative isn’t available, let’s consider products and services from other countries before automatically choosing American.
Our Canadian businesses produce world-class products and deliver exceptional services. 
Every purchase we make is also a vote for the kind of economy we want to build.
More Canadian purchases → stronger Canadian businesses → more Canadian jobs → stronger communities.
And that matters right here in Clarington.
As a candidate for Clarington Council, I believe in supporting local, strengthening our economy, and standing up for our community.
We may campaign against one another, but when it comes to Canada, let’s stand together.
