Throughout my career, I had the privilege of learning from outstanding leaders while managing complex organizations and budgets worth hundreds of millions of dollars. One lesson has stayed with me: real leadership is not about making decisions alone. It’s about listening, bringing people together, and building support for solutions that benefit everyone.

In 2020, a software company, I was asked to lead the integration of 15 companies that had been acquired but had never truly become one organization. The challenge was significant—we needed to transform the business while continuing to serve customers every day.

Rather than imposing change from the top down, I started by listening. I asked each leadership team to identify two things they believed their organization did exceptionally well and two areas that needed improvement. When everyone came together to share their ideas, the group worked collaboratively to identify the best practices that would strengthen the entire organization.

Change is never easy, so I met individually with leaders to understand their concerns, build trust, and help them embrace a shared vision. Because people were heard, respected, and involved in the process, they became committed to making it succeed.

Within nine months, the organization was operating as one team. We improved customer service, realized the benefits of the integration, and strengthened the company’s performance.
That is the same leadership approach I would bring to Clarington Council.

If I earn your trust, I will listen first. I will take the time to understand the issues, collaborate with residents, fellow Councillors, and municipal staff, and focus on practicle solutions that deliver value for taxpayers.

Clarington has tremendous potential. By working together, respecting different perspectives, and making thoughtful, informed decisions, we can build an even stronger community for today’s residents and for future generations.
